Jean frowned at the fuzzy sausage shaped thing sniffing around Evelyn's lap. "You'll have to feed it."

"Nah, dogs eat food?" Eve gave her best side-eye. She'd shaved her head again, despite grousing that she missed her locs. "Could be useful once he's bigger, you know?"

"Maybe." It peered over Eve's arm, entranced by the carpet. "Might be noisy."

"His momma is dead and he needs a new family."

Eve raised her chin. Jean wanted to say you don't have to prove yourself to me, kid but instead said, "if it shits in the house you're cleaning it."
