Mine is not a dull life

Name: [personal profile] jkatkina
Story: Fensirt
Colors: Skylight #11 (Never a dull moment)
Amber #7 (mine) (creatively interpreted as "THIS IS MINE" rather than "mineshaft")
Supplies/Styles: Illustration
Rating: G
Warnings: none
Summary: Kaitan hangs a target.
Notes: Relates to this piece.

This is more or less a rough, not a finished piece, but I like it and don't want to spend too much time obsessing over it.

I also want to put it out there that I did the final application of textures to the rock and Kaitan with a mouse, while drunk. Yay me.

This is beautiful. I love the unusual angles in the composition, and the chunky coloration very much reminds me of lighting in the southwest.

You nailed it. Painting deserts is difficult for precisely that reason. The light behaves so differently that people who try to render it based on their observations of temperate light will get things wrong. Same with tropical savannas.

I'd enjoy seeing more of this.

>> My intention is to do an illustration of about this complexity for every second or third story I post, so, you know, keep an eye out. :) <<

Cool!

>> I see you just subscribed to my journal! Fair warning: the pieces I post there often goes through significant changes before I post it to rainbowfic, so if you want the finished versions of stuff, wait till I put it up in the community. <<

That's okay. It gives me two chances to see stuff scrolling through my friends list.

Oh my goooooood your art is amazing. I agree that the unusual angles are excellent, and the coloring reminds me of the Grand Canyon. Plus, the sheer life in Kaitan.

Rough?

I couldn't do that in a million years while sober. GO YOU.

And thank you for posting this, the story it went with and all of your way cool goodies in general ^^.

Always a pleasure!

(Actually, I have Kaitan clambering about on the rocks, fumbling her copper bangles kind of stuck in my head.)

Funny story about reference pics!

...I actually had never bought pictures of my characters before the batch from Doro. Which isn't to say I can't come up with "like this" images because I hoard pictures. And actually I like it a lot when artists put their own spins on what I send them. I mean, I wouldn't be asking for stuff if I didn't like their personal styles.

(I have a BJD collection and actually now that I think of it, I'm sort of known for cajoling artists who don't advertise their painting skills into doing my heads. So, A- you're not my first victim and B- on the off chance the following isn't gibberish: I have a virgin Unoa Lusis faceplate that could use some attention if you'd be interested.)

LSS- I know what I would like! Imma PM you my email.

Thank you so much!
