Notes: Aw yeah.
This is an alternate image to the earlier image with Fara-as-flyboy poster for an upcoming BSG alternative universe storyline... and doodling is giving me time to think! Feel free to skip this chatter if you A) don't want BSG spoilers or B) don't care for chatter about world building.
In the original Avengaea setting, Laedo Ledo is an Askan Asandus -- one of the more privileged creatures on the planet. He's a military guard working for a species that disdains violence but requires grunts like him in order to (sometimes) maintain supremacy, so his job is both important and reviled. Original!Laedo has had a life with a lot of rejection and the one thing that he clings to throughout the various disappointments is his faith. Because Avengaea supports two very tangible Goddesses (even if they rarely show themselves to mortals or otherwise interact on a personal level with others), his ability to build a relationship with his creator is one irrefutable fact in his life (and the story goes that all of that gets torn apart and re-worked for him during a series of catastrophes, but more on that much later!)
Laedo makes a good visual match for one of BSG's humanoid Cylon models, #3 (Leoben Conoy) though original!Laedo is younger and shinier -- consider Askan Asandae to regular humans like the reimagined Star Trek movies are to... I don't know, your average sampling of rush-hour grocery market shoppers. In the BSG series the copies of Leoben that we get to see have a deeply intuitive spirituality that focuses on mysticism, and which interweaves entirely a narrative of semi-truths and outright lies. His personality is like that of a four-year-old desperately seeking to keep the attention of a loved one, following that through to some pretty twisted measures.
Leoben!Laedo as a combo, then, is something of a mashup. Visually this is another #3 model that has slipped into the particular group of humans that managed to escape with a battlestar named Draconis. His cover story is sound enough that he has managed to earn the trust of those around him, and his mission as a cylon spy and saboteur has been put on hold due to the fact that the rest of the cylons have deserted him for the, you know, actual story. This model integrated into the viper-jockies and part of the AU occurs when he and a squadmate go to investigate an anomaly on a planet that the mini-fleet has attempted to settle in the wake of the Fall of the Colonies.
Also, his callsign is "Gold Pan" -- his unique understanding of life, reflexes, ability to swim upstream (as it were) gave him the nickname 'golden nugget' when he signed up to learn to become a viper pilot. Since then he managed to get a bit of a name upgrade, but that doesn't stop the others who trust him from calling him "Goldie" on a regular basis.
