The trees look like they're on fire, flame-colored leaves on dry wicks of bark. It's an appropriate image, he thinks, staring up at them. Fire and blood and dry dead bones crunching underfoot.

He enjoys being a popular professor, being well-liked. He enjoys hunting more, nothing but silent movements and the hilt of a knife in his hand, and the hurried frantic breath of his prey.

His brother likes to keep them, play with them. He prefers the immediacy, the gush of hot blood over his hands.

The man's eyes are wide and staring. He enjoys seeing them like that.

This reminds me of a documentary I saw a very long time ago.

Where one of Dahmer's relatives took a reporter to the glen where he'd put his first victim in a wood chipper.

Said, "Yep. It was right here. We're standing on bone chips."

So, the reporter picked one up.

And the cousin just nodded.

I never thought I'd get this little sideways smile ever again, but here I have it!
