Mystic Beach Blue 14, Lapis Lazuli 8: Fireflies
Author: Kat
Title: Fireflies
Story: Shine Like It Does
Colors: Mystic beach blue 14 (this picture), lapis lazuli 8 (vestige) with Tom's paint-by-numbers (The summer is fading away fast.)
Supplies and Materials: Stickers (Fireflies and glow-worms are neither flies nor worms. They are both beetles.), glitter (Discovery), glue (A smile on your face seems to appear for no reason at all, but you can tell that circumstances are definitely improving.), novelty beads (Leaf)
Word Count: 148
Rating: PG
Summary: Jack's fallen in love.
Warnings: none.
Notes: One of the things I miss about the east coast: the fireflies.
It's always summer in California, at least where Jack grew up, but here it's fading into autumn, the last few hot and lazy days shimmering away like a heat mirage. He loves it, unexpectedly and wholeheartedly. At home seasons blur into one another, with no real delineation but the changing heat and the coming rains. Here he can already see the difference: changing leaves and coming chills, and fireflies!
"They're not flies, you know," Felix says, when Jack tells him all of this. He only met Felix two days ago, but he can already tell: he loves Felix just as unexpectedly, just as wholeheartedly.
"I tell you about an epiphany," he asks, "and you focus on the fireflies?"
Felix shrugs. "Fireflies are pretty awesome, but they're beetles really. And glowworms too."
"You're so weird," Jack says, affectionately. Felix smiles at him, and his heart gets a little lighter.
