Summary: Lauren loved him with all her young heart.

Lauren loved him with all of her young heart, with everything she was. How could she not? He was the first person since her parents died who seemed to really see her, not an orphan charity case, big-eyed and bedraggled, holding hands with her siblings.
She loved him, but he was not as he seemed, and he did not see her, he saw a specimen, an experiment. He opened her eyes, and where she had once seen a god, she saw an eel.
Hate is strongest where love once was. Lauren hardened her heart, and vowed never to love again.
