The child was a fair-haired little girl with her mother's wide blue eyes. Jake loved her immediately, with his whole heart.
Little Grace was a dreamy child. She haunted the lending libraries as soon as she could read, and she learned remarkably early--Jake taught her, holding her on his lap, the book spread open on hers. She liked the Oz books, and Alice in Wonderland; stories of faraway lands, magic and dreams. There was such an imagination behind her eyes.
He and Olivia had their own daughters, of course. But Grace...
