Andrell first thought of leaving when he found out why King Amassa had declared war on them--the reason he didn't was because he hated that that, and not everything his mother had tried to teach him, was what had made him see.
The second time Andrell thought of leaving, it was just about getting away from it all--he couldn't fight against his father, his brothers, everyone he'd ever loved, no matter how important the cause was.
When Andrell seriously considered leaving for the third time, his father was dead, his oldest brother was too radical, but it was like he was holding his breath, waiting for the other shoe to drop, waiting for a sign.
It wasn't until the fourth time that 'leaving' meant 'defecting,' when people started dying in waves, and all he could think about was the only way to stop him--the only way--was to take him down, but Kellom was his brother, and he just couldn't do it.
It came around full circle on the fifth time--he had started thinking about it with Prince Isshiri's story, but it was the way his own brother's story had ended that finally pushed him over the end, made him realize that things were too far gone, and no matter how much he loved Kellom, and the rest of his family, and his city, it had to end--he had to end it.
So, he stole away like a thief in the night, walking away from everything he knew and loved, and prayed that, after five tries, he was finally making the right decision.
