Sphene 16, Fish Blue 4: Words
Author: Kat
Title: Words
Story: In the Heart
Colors: Sphene 16 (Refraction), fish blue 4 (Wolftrap angler)
Supplies and Materials: Graffiti (Lilith Fair Village Stage: Half a Heart, Jill Sobule), stain (When a person cannot deceive himself the chances are against his being able to deceive other people. - Mark Twain), novelty beads (I woke up with my mind on a reason/For why it's right to be leavin' you" - Ghost, Gregory and the Hawk)
Word Count: 160
Rating: PG
Summary: They really had so much in common.
Warnings: Brief nonexplicit mentions of depression.
Notes: none.
Hannah's mom was so thrilled when she started dating Jake. "Such a nice boy," she kept saying. "And a law student, just like you! You marry this boy, Hannah. So much in common!"
They really did have a lot in common. An interest in the law--though Hannah wanted to practice and Jake wanted to create. Intelligence and curiosity--they had conversations that lasted for hours. Words--sometimes they poked through the Oxford English Dictionary, and laughed at the strange words.
And yet.
He hurt all the time. All the time. He hid it well, mostly, but he hurt, and there wasn't anything Hannah could do to help him. And after a while she got tired of going around in circles, trying to be happy for the both of them, trying to make him smile, trying not to start hurting the way he did, all the time.
Hannah's mom didn't understand why she left him.
Sometimes there were no words.
