Note: OMG what is this a CROSSOVER. Because I'm 80% sure UF and DC take place in the same universe, just not the universe I've been writing in. Which also makes this an AU. Constructive criticism is welcome, either through comments or PM.

“I have good news and bad news,” said Karen, coming into Kevin’s office and dropping a file on his desk.

Kevin looked up and gave her a crooked smile, the same one she had fallen in love with years before. “So what is it?”

“I got the Ellingsworths to invest in the studio,” she said. “Didn’t leave until the check was signed.” She pointed at the file. “All the details are in there.”

“You ran everything by Manny?” said Kevin, flipping open the manila folder.

“Of course.” Karen sidled over to Kevin’s side of the desk and slid into his lap. “And the Ellingsworths are loaded.”

“Don’t I know it.” Kevin ran one hand down the side of Karen’s blouse, splaying his fingers across her waist. “So what’s the bad news?”

“I’m pretty sure they’re terrible people,” said Karen, shrugging. “The wife wouldn’t stop giving me the stink eye the whole time. I think she was judging me.”

“If that’s the case, she wouldn’t find anything to justify it,” said Kevin. With her sitting tall on his lap, he couldn’t reach her mouth, so he planted a kiss on her shoulder. “And as far as bad news goes, it could be a lot worse.”

“I just don’t want to sell my soul,” said Karen with a sigh. She leaned her head against Kevin’s shoulder. “I know it’s not easy to stick to anything approaching principles in the corporate world, but we could at least try?”

“We need investors,” said Kevin. “I agree with you, but it’s a necessity. They’re looking for something to do with their money, we need it. In return they make more money off of us. The Ellingsworths may not be pleasant on a personal level, but there’s never been anything to suggest they run a less than ethical business. And their business is what we want. We don’t have to be friends with them.”

“I know,” said Karen. “Just maybe next time could you deal with them? I don’t know; something about them just gives me the willies.”

“Sure,” said Kevin. He kissed her again. “They gave so much money,” he whispered.

“They did,” said Karen. “If nothing else, at least I convinced them to sign the check.”

Awww, these two are sweet! And I seem to recall that Karen is right and the Ellingsworths are. Um. Not great.
