Summary: Alex deals with/utterly fails to deal with a bad breakup. Comments, criticism, and questions are all appreciated.
It was a bright, sunny day in mid-November that Alex decided he would call in to work and spend the rest of the day huddled in bed with most of a pack of wine coolers and his laptop. All things considered, it seemed like the most sensible option.
He wasn't hiding, or so he told himself as he set the computer up so that he could type without having to sit up or stick his head too far out of the covers. He just hadn't gotten nearly enough sleep last night, and since he'd had to get up to call work, and had to put in his contacts to find the phone after he'd thrown it against the wall last night, so he couldn't go back to sleep quite yet. And they didn't really need him at work, anyway. He might as well find a new game to throw money at. Something with desperately attractive men in a world that bore little relation to the real one.
Maybe later, he'd get takeout. Maybe in a few days, he'd grab a friend and go through the texts, the emails, the scattered remnants of things left over at his house. Or maybe he'd change his number and throw it all into the river. Either/or. Alex had thrown a year of his life away, so the lying, miserable child could spare a few stupid band shirts and a motorcyle.
The game started downloading, and Alex thought he might be able to manage another hour or two of sleep after all, just until then.
