With great care, he set the bag on the bed. He retrieved the case from its hiding place in the wall, along with a handkerchief and bottle of perfume. As always, he doused the kerchief and tied it around his face before opening the case. He smiled, and then retrieved the bag and carefully settled the new treasure in with the others. He traced the others, remembering the faces of the fiends he'd taken them from, then shut and locked the box again before the smell spread too far.

This one had fought back, bloodied his nose. He had to take several deep breaths before he was calm enough to retrieve the case without breaking any of the treasures inside. People would start asking questions--asking him questions--if they noticed the blood. He was only lucky to have gotten back to where he kept it with no one commenting on the blood. He needed to improve--subdue the fiends more quickly to avoid further difficulties.

He didn't usually take females. They weren't as fiendish as males. This one had screamed--he’d had to stuff a piece torn from his shirt into her mouth. Clearly, he needed to adapt to this unforeseen difficulty.

He already used a glass knife to gut them, only using metal for the saw to collect his treasures. But to counter this…

Break their jaws first. They won't scream, and it'll stun them so they won't fight back. I'll need a wooden club...

He smiled as he put the case back in the hiding place. And I need a new treasure chest.
