"Who are you going with?"
Freya just shakes her head. Ignoring the surprised expression on Susan's face.
"What 'no'? What do you mean 'no'?"
A soft sigh escapes her and she turns to face her friend, placing her hands on Susan's shoulders, stopping her in midwalk.
"Don't Susan, just don't. I don't feel like..."
Another sigh, nearly desperate, when she turns around and continues her way home after school.
"You don't feel like what? Talking? Going? What? Freya, what?"
Hands balled to fists and eyes closed, biting her lip. Spinning around when she feels Susan's hand on her shoulder.
"Susan!"
Her shout echoes across the street. People looking at them.
The look on Freya's face scares Susan for a second. It has been a long time ago since she had seen her best friend like this. So... angry and sad and desperate.
"Freya..."
A soft whisper. Concerned.
Another sigh. Freya shakes her head again and closes her eyes.
"Sorry. Just... Just leave me alone for a while. Okay?"
She looks back up when she hears Susan's sharp intake of breath.
"Don't worry. I'm fine. I swear, I am okay. I just... I just need some time. Alone. I just need to... get my thoughts back together. Need to get myself back together."
Without replying, Susan wraps her arms around her friend. "Okay. But if you need me, I'm here for you alright. Just call and..."
Smiling, Freya returns the hug.
"Don't worry. I just... You know I don't really like Prom Nights."
She can feel Susan nod against her shoulder.
-
"Are you sure you aren't coming?"
Smiling she shakes her head.
"Yeah, I'm sure. I'm going to have much more fun just sitting on my couch and watching a movie than being at Prom. I hate Prom. Well, not hate, but... You know what I mean..."
She can hear her friend laugh at the other end of the phone.
"But you go and have fun and... give Chris a hug from me."
Closing her eyes, she puts down her phone. It are at times like these that she misses Thomas. Really misses him. She knows he'd have asked her to the prom. And she knows she'd have gone with him... And she'd have loved it. Secretly.

< Why are you online? ^^ >
She smiles when Nick starts talking to her on Facebook.
< Why shouldn't I be online? >
The answer follows immediately.
< It's Prom Night, isn't it? I heard Chris mention it at training. >
Rolling her eyes she pulls her legs up underneath her.
< Yeah it is. >
< And you're not there? Are you ill? :s >
She laughs softly at his concern. Quickly reassuring him.
< No, don't worry. I'm perfectly fine. I just... I don't like going to a Prom. >
It doesn't take a lot of imagination to picture the look on his face.
< You don't? :-O >
Laughing she shakes her head.
< No, I don't. :p >
< Why not? :-O >
For a second she closes her eyes. Taking a deep breath. She never really thought about it. She just doesn't like it.
< I guess no one ever asking me out, plays a little part, if you really want to know. Other than that, I just don't like it. No specific reason. >
Nick stays silent for a while and Freya shifts her focus back to the movie she was watching.
< So, what are you doing now then? >
< Watching a movie. >
He stays silent for some more minutes and she continues watching the movie.
< Care to go out for a movie? Or a drink? >
Her fingers hover over her keyboard. Before she smiles.
< Yeah, sure. I'd love to. >
His answers comes immediately again.
< Great. Shall I pick you up? It's on my way to town anyway. >
< Okay. See you in some minutes. >
She smiles and logs off, making herself ready.
-
"So, movie? Drink?"
She pulls up her shoulders while they are cycling to town.
"Both?"
He laughs and nods. "Deal. Movie first?"
Another nod. From her this time. And they arrive at the cinema just 5 minutes later. Walking inside, just a little late, the movie starts in a couple of minutes. Luckily they don't have to chose anymore. It was a quick decision, one taken while they were still cycling.
"Hey Nick."
He turns when he notices she has fallen a little behind.
"Thanks."
For a second he looks at her. A little surprised. Before he smiles. As if he knows. And perhaps he does. They have become pretty close. Pretty fast.
He waits until she is standing right next to him, before wrapping an arm around her shoulder, pulling her close against his side. He doesn't speak, doesn't answer, doesn't have to...
