Nacre #18
Name: shadowsong26
Story: Unthreaded
'Verse: Feredar
Colors: Nacre #18. Mislabeled
Supplies and Materials: pastels (my current gen card G4 lost and found), seed beeds, canvas (950 FY)
Word Count: 189
Rating: PG-13
Characters: Fes and Rin Hantree
Warnings: None
Notes: Constructive criticism welcome, as always. Fes and Rin are Taz's parents.
Fes shrieked involuntarily as she lost her hold on the rigging during the storm, the world seeming to disappear around her. She tried to reach for the rain to form a net so she wouldn't break her neck when she inevitably impacted, but she wasn't a particularly strong mage and it slipped through her fingers.
Someone managed to catch onto her wrist, and she was pulled against someone else's body. "I've got you!" he shouted, and their descent slowed so that, when they touched the deck, she only felt solidity return, no pain.
Shaking with relief, she turned around and looked up to see who had saved her.
Rin Hantree.
He was from an Unthreaded line--carrying a non-water magic from a distant ancestor. Even her line--which hadn't had a captain in six generations--had higher status than his.
But, at the same time...
If there hadn't been an Unthreaded air-mage on the ship, she would've been killed.
"Hi," she said.
"Hi." He smiled at her.
And he smiles real pretty...
"Thank you," she said, after a minute.
He grinned, and let go of her hand. "Any time."
