Noah nearly gave the DJ at the club that night his bank account when he thought about it later. It had been a simple thing, playing two songs by Luke Bryan in a row, a move that packed the dance floor. By that time, Joy had a bit of a buzz from the shots his friends had dared them into taking, and she jumped from her seat as a song was winding down

“You wanna dance?” She asked him, shining him a smile.

For her, he would. And yet. “Come get me if our song comes on,” he answered. He’d love just to watch her dance, and part of him wanted to know what the guys had to say without her in earshot. Sue him. He was male.

She winked before swaying off, and it was barely a second before Rick burst out with, “You fuck! For years we try and get you to grow some balls, and then the ONE NIGHT you go out without us, you get a ten! A fucking ten!”

“All I ‘got’ was that I was the one being caught, you moron,” he shot back, his eyes not leaving Joy for a second. He could honestly watch her dance, motionless as he was, until he starved to death. He recognized the next song, recognized the voice as Luke Bryan, and took a second to remember the title.

“Love In A College Town”

“Either way, it’s bullshit.” Colin snorted, his eyes scanning the bar. “You never agree to dance with any girl, or guy, for as long as we know you, and then – for fuck’s sake, is Holloway buying drinks for girls again? Skeezy son of a…” Colin trailed off, getting up to go stop it.

Fuck. He was in love. Noah ignored him as goosebumps ran up his arms.

Girl I’ll be over there
With my buddies, drinkin’ beer
If you need me, come and get me
When you hear our song
In a little while
When you’re ready, shoot me that smile
And I’ll know that it’s time to go
You got your buzz on

We won’t ever look as good as we do now
So let’s take another shot, take another round
Hug on one another, talk about each other
Stay until they kick us out
Nothin’ like love in a college town

“He’s not even hearing us!” he heard Daryl say to Rick of them say before they both roared with laughter. Noah ignored them, listening to the lyrics of the song and getting chills up and down his spine. They were too perfect. It scared him, and yet. This meant something, had to be, had to be a sign from fucking God himself. Did she hear it, where he did, or was it a funny coincidence to her, like “Play It Again”, also by Luke Bryan had been?

She was sitting all alone over on the tailgate
Tan legs swingin’ by a Georgia plate
I was lookin’ for her boyfriend
Thinkin’, no way she ain’t got one
Soon as I sat down, I was falling in love
Tryin’ to pour a little sugar in her Dixie cup
Talkin’ over the speakers in the back of that truck
She jumped up and cut me off

She was like
Oh my God, this is my song
I been listening to the radio all night long
Sittin’ ‘round waitin’ for it to come on, and here it is
She was like, come here boy, I wanna dance,
‘Fore I said a word, she was takin’ my hand
Spinnin’ me around ‘til it faded out
And she gave me a kiss
And she said, play it again, play it again, play it again
And I said, play it again, play it again, play it again

He was going to disappoint her. She wanted to go out, but Noah knew that he wouldn’t be able to do more than dance one dance with her before he would have to take her home. She looked too good in a dress that he needed to take off of her, was dancing too good to a Luke Bryan song – one of many Luke Bryan songs, it seemed – that was too fucking perfect. Colin had come back and the guys were talking about other things he barely heard, if they even included him in the conversation. The song was coming to an end and he stood as if in a daze when the next one started, and headed for Joy.

He only heard the next song. Another Luke Bryan.

“I Know You’re Gonna Be There”

I’m gonna put on this new shirt
Shine up these old boots
Take a deep breath
Try to keep my cool
I know you’re gonna be there
I’m gonna have a couple drinks
To knock off the edge
Not too much, I don’t wanna make a fool of myself
I know you’re gonna be there
I know you’re gonna be there

Joy smiled at him when he approached her during the slower song, and they came together in each other’s arms. It wasn’t close enough for Noah. It wouldn’t be now that he knew, and it never would be. Even if they were skin to skin, he inside her completely, it wouldn’t be enough no matter how hard he tried to climb inside her and meet her soul to soul again. He had lost her somewhere, but now he had found her again, and he would never, ever let her go.

He didn’t know what else to say or do, so he only sang the next verse into her ear, knowing it was true, knowing he would do something so horrible if he did lose her.

“And I’m gonna bring somebody I barely even know
And when you look my way, I’m gonna pull her in close
And the crazy thing about it is I ain’t in to her all
I just wanna see if you still care...
I know you’re gonna be there.”

Noah heard Joy gasp, and he thought that if his arms weren’t wrapped around her waist her knees might have buckled.

“Get us alone,” she whispered to him, barely heard, and he was only too happy to oblige.

They didn’t make it farther than his back seat. He went slow, gentle, both because he couldn’t do anything else, and he didn’t want to rock the truck and cause suspicion. Noah stared into her eyes as he cupped her face, and felt his eyes fill with tears as his climax approach. “I love you,” his whispered hoarsely. “God, Joy, I love you.”

It was no wonder she took him with her.

Rick.

Rick.

You know why Noah landed a ten? Because he didn't refer to her as a ten. JUST A THOUGHT.

ANYWAY these two make me way too squishy and happy inside and there need to be Alexandra and April already BECAUSE STOPPIT. STOP.
