It was nice to know that even in the fifties, some things still persisted. Delivery-only supermarkets were all well and good, especially since her back had been bothering her and Ivy couldn't lift that much anymore, but Gina missed the luxury of picking her own produce. Thank goodness for farmer's markets.

She hummed softly to herself as she looked over the vegetables available. The selection had improved vastly in the two weeks since they'd held the last one; one of the good things about rolling into spring. She'd definitely have to get some of that lettuce, and the apricots shining like round golden suns. Eggplants, smooth and purple-skinned, pears and plums and potatoes. She lingered over the raspberries, wearing a little half-smile as memories slipped over her skin. Turnips, tomatoes, spinach, squash and strawberries, so many lovely things.

She paused by the cucumbers to let Ivy catch up to her and smiled at the young lady behind the counter. "These are lovely," she said, sincerely. "Such nice cucumbers."

Ivy overheard her, came to stand beside her and slipped an arm around her waist. "I've got a nice big cucumber waiting for you at home," she whispered.

Gina blushed, and blushed harder when she noticed the young lady giggling. Evidently Ivy had not whispered that quietly enough. "I'm going to kill you," she whispered back, and smiled apologetically at the young lady. "I'm sorry you had to hear that."

"No, it's sweet," the young lady said, grinning. Ivy, unrepentant, grinned back. "Seriously. How long have you two been together?"

Gina blinked, and exchanged a look with her wife. "I don't quite..."

Ivy, faster at math, beat her to it. "Forty-five years," she said, sounding surprised. "Give or take."

"That's so wonderful," the young lady said, leaning her elbows on the stand and growing rather starry-eyed. "All those years together and you're still in love."

"In lust is more like it," Gina muttered, and made Ivy choke on a giggle. "Thank you, miss, that's very sweet of you to say."

"It's nothing," she said, smiling even wider. "Would you like a cucumber?"

Ivy snickered, and Gina went red again. "No thank you," she said, and dragged Ivy off towards the cashier.

"What?" Ivy said, innocently, as soon as the young lady was out of earshot.

Gina sighed, and took her place in line. "Love, as much as I appreciate the fact that you still want me after all these years, I do not appreciate you telling the world about it."

"Aw," Ivy said. "What good's being old if you can't behave however you damn well please? Anyway, she thought it was cute."

Gina smiled, thinking of the young lady's starry eyes-- it wasn't often they got that reaction, even now in these more enlightened days. "I suppose so," she said.

"And," Ivy said, "I love you. I don't mind people knowing that. Even if..." She smiled, rather wickedly. "Even if that traumatizes the kids who think old people don't have sex."

"Old people have sex," Gina said, shuffling one step as the line moved. "Lots of sex."

"Exactly," Ivy said, and grabbed her ass. "Think of it as a learning experience for that big-eyed teenager at the register."

Gina rolled her eyes, but didn't object. "Sometimes I think you do these things just to troll the world."

"Well," Ivy said. "I cannot tell a lie. But trolling is a side benefit at best."

"Mm," Gina said, unconvinced, and set the basket on the cashier's table. The teenager eyed her sidelong, but thankfully began ringing up her groceries without comment. "So you don't treasure the looks on their faces."

"In a warm and fuzzy corner of my soul," Ivy said, then touched Gina's cheek to turn her face to hers, and kissed her, soft and warm. "But it's mostly because I love you."

"I love you too," Gina said, and smiled at her wife, at the well-beloved face so close to hers, every curve and line familiar as her own body. Crow's feet at the corners of Ivy's eyes, her cheekbones growing sharper every year, her red hair gone all silver now, and still she was so beautiful. "But let's save the making out until we get home."

"Oh, fine," Ivy said. She kissed Gina once more, then settled back, snaking her arm around Gina's waist again while they waited for the teenager to arrive at a total. "But I expect lots of it. And sex."

The teenager choked. Gina merely smiled. "I'll see what I can do."
