Dirt Brown 20, Cerise 11: Renewal
Author: Kat
Title: Renewal
Story: In the Heart
Colors: Dirt brown 20 (Smell of the living earth), cerise 11 (Playing hooky)
Supplies and Materials: Bichromatic (dirt brown and cerise), frame, pointillism, brush (amaranthine), glitter (trees in bloom).
Word Count: 218
Rating: G
Summary: Quiet days.
Warnings: none.
Notes: I have conquered comps! Time to conquer Dirt Brown. Memefill for subluxate, prompt Summer/Zack/Felipe, summer days.
It's always one day in early June, because it's warm then without being stifling, trembling on the edge of summer.
Summer lying in the grass, her eyes closed and her shirt hiked up, her bare belly rounded in the sun, ripening.
The trees bloom bridal veils, petals drifting on the wind and catching on the grass, white shreds and spots like scraps of lace.
Zack on his stomach watching a squirrel watch him right back, the back of his neck burning pink and then red.
The breeze off the river smells clean, like water tastes, plain and perfect; the earth smells rich, like bread, like life.
Felipe walking his bare feet up the side of a tree, his arms folded behind his head, a curious concentration on his face.
There are sweet things, always, lemonade and ice cream and strawberries, sugar and honey, summer taste.
They never discuss this: they just know when it's time, exchanging glances across the breakfast table, quietly certain.
The noise of the city is somehow diminished, drowned out by birds and water and Summer's soft breathing, Zack muttering to himself, Felipe laughing under his breath.
Call in sick, give Thomas to his aunts and go, curl together on the grass, breathe in the quiet, be renewed.
It's always one day in early June.
