He woke in darkness.
It took him a minute to drag his mind up from the depths and remember—the sentry, the fight, a horrible crunch of metal on bone—
Isshiri!
He tried to get up. It hurt, and there was a leaden weight lying across his chest.
He remembered—tackling King Kellom away, pulling the groundwater, falling.
Something broke above them, and there was Isshiri, face dusted with bruises, a web of terror and relief in his eyes, haloed in sunlight, reaching for him.
Swallowing back pain and horror at the body on top of him, he reached back.
