Colors: Nile green 2 (Pyramid) with shadowsong's paint-by-numbers (The AU where Ivy takes over the world: setting up a proper supervillain lair is an art)
Supplies and Materials: Eraser (Mad Scientist AU), brush (orchidaceous), acrylic ("That rug really tied the room together." - The Big Lubowski), fabric (red flower), chalk (garden full of dogs), glue (You are tempted to overcompensate for your current uncertainty by acting as if you know exactly what's going on today), novelty beads (pop).
Word Count: 898
Rating: G
Summary: Ivy shows Gina her new lair.
Warnings: none.
Notes: Fun fact: there is a variety of plumeria called Yellow Gina. Also, Ivy is not a geologist and neither am I, so I wouldn't take anything said about volcanoes as truthful.

Ivy met Gina at the entrance to the lair, jigging with impatience and wearing an unholy grin.

Well, of course she was wearing an unholy grin, she was a mad scientist. It was probably part of the job description. She wasn't wearing a lab coat, though, and her hair was loose, so she probably wasn't on the job.

At least, Gina hoped she wasn't on the job. Way too many wannabe heroes interrupted dates when Ivy was on the job.

"Hi, babe," Ivy said, and went up on her tiptoes to kiss her. "Excited to see it?"

Gina smiled down at her. "You bet," she said. "Also a little apprehensive. Are there any death traps I should be aware of?"

"Oh, of course," Ivy said, which was not reassuring. Then she added, "They shouldn't be armed yet," which was even less reassuring.

Gina still followed her into the lair. It said a lot about their relationship, she thought, and none of it was complimentary to her.

"So this is like, the back entrance," Ivy said, over her shoulder, as they progressed down a long, dark hallway. "There's a main entrance but there's a lot more death traps that way and anyway you can get to all the good stuff this way."

"Main entrance," Gina said, thinking back over her walk there. "That would be the pyramid set into the side of the volcano? Which reminds me, Ivy, a volcano?"

"It's not active," Ivy said, sounding hurt. "Anyway, it’s a classic."

Gina grinned. "Cliché," she corrected.

"Classic," Ivy said, and spun briefly to give her a pout. "Come on, it's the inside that's special, you'll love it. No lava, I promise."

"Okay, now I'm worried," Gina said.

"Shh." Ivy came back and took one of her hands in a gentle grip. "Seriously. It'll be fine. Now close your eyes, we're almost there and it's a surprise."

Gina sighed heavily to show how very put-upon she was, and what a good girlfriend she was to be trusting her supervillanious significant other with her safety like this.

"I heard that," Ivy said, grinning.

"You were supposed to," Gina said, and obediently closed her eyes. "All right. Lead on."

"Leading!" Ivy tugged gently on her hand. "The ground's really smooth, don't worry. You won't trip."

Gina hadn't actually been worried about tripping until Ivy mentioned it, but after that she had to concentrate on not scuffing her shoe and falling on her face for a good hundred feet. When she could pay attention to her surroundings again she felt—

Humid?

It was definitely warmer, and the air wetter. She could hear water trickling somewhere, and smell things growing, that rich damp smell of earth and plants. A garden? She'd thought Ivy preferred fauna to flora, but maybe...

"Okay," Ivy said, and was that a hint of nerves in her voice? "Open your eyes."

Gina found herself staring straight at a bright red bloom almost the size of her face—a dahlia, maybe, or a peony, but neither grew so large. Her nose hadn't been wrong, or her ears. When she pushed the flower out of the way, she was looking over a lush garden, sprawling with flowers, a pond drifting with lilies and rippling from a fountain in the center. Reds and yellows and blues mostly, she noted, against the rich green, but there were other colors scattered in there, pinks and purples and a splash of brilliant orange.

There were birds everywhere, tiny flying jewels. A sloth hung from a vine-draped beam, and there was Ivy's tiger, lounging by the pool and admiring his whiskers. The alligator was probably underwater, and Gina could see artifical nests dotted around the place—the owls, maybe. A sudden flutter erupted among a nest of pink-yellow flowers and a ginger cat, lean but healthy, went streaking down a path and disappeared beneath a bush. One of Ivy's strays; no doubt there were more.

And there was Ivy, standing with her hands twisted together, nibbling nervous at the corner of her mouth. "Well?" she asked. "Do you like it?"

"Like it?" Gina asked, almost awed. "You made this for me?"

"Well," Ivy said, and wrinkled her nose. "Me too. And Summer, she likes flowers. But yeah, partly for you. I hoped...maybe..."

"It's amazing," Gina said, and spun on her heel. "Ivy, this is just incredible! How in God's name did you put all this together?"

"Oh, well," Ivy said, going pink with pleasure. "I redirected some of the volcano's heat—"

"—I thought you said it wasn't active—"

"—it's not active," she continued, as if Gina hadn't spoken, "doesn't mean it doesn't have residual heat, anyway I redirected it and I messed around with some plant genetics, and this happened." She waved at the entire garden. "And I liked it, and... yeah, so I kept it. There's a couple of treehouses here somewhere."

Of course they were; a rather large piece of Ivy was still five years old and thrilled with the universe. Gina loved that piece of Ivy, and the unabashed joy it sparked in them both. "These treehouses, do they have beds?" she asked, trying for innocence.

Ivy's eyes narrowed, and then widened again, pupils dilating. "They might," she said, equally innocent. "We could always go and look."

"Let's," Gina said, and they ran off into the greenery, hand in hand.

Ivy is a supervillan. Ivy can do as she pleases with her volcano, active or not.

That /GARDEN/. OMG.

I think perhaps Ivy was destined to be a mad scientist.

And keep tigers in volcanoes. Anyway, it feels /right/ to me.

And the birds. The little jewels. SQUEAK.

Ivy the supervillan, in a vulcano, building a garden for her girlfriend. That's just... cute. ^^
