Alice Blue 2
Author:
geena
Color: Alice Blue 2. if you don't know where you are going, any road will get you there
Supplies and Styles: Graffiti, miniature collection, brush (duende), acrylic (compliant)
Rating: G
Word Count: 300
Story: Polyfaceted (Index~Timeline); the title of this story is Lasting.
Summary: Augusto spends a day with three of his partners.
Notes: This takes place in one single day in early March of 2000. In a strange way, this is my response for the Presidential Pickup Lines challenge here. Specifically for this pickup line.
***
They share a leisurely breakfast together after the kids are gone. Augusto insists that Martina leaves everything to him and to his credit he manages to cobble together a passable meal of bacon, eggs, and toast.
“Wonderful,” she announces, smiling as he sets the plates before her. “Perhaps tonight I can make--”
“Oh.” He tries not to cringe as he drops the skillet into the sink. “I’m sorry, I won’t be home. I have plans.”
Her smile hardly wavers. “Then we’ll have a nice dinner tomorrow. Just the two of us.”
Augusto reaches across the table to clasp her hand.

“Do you have to head back so soon?” Arianna asks, carefully watching him as he climbs out of bed and begins to gather his scattered clothing.
Augusto glances over. Regretfully, he replies, “I have a meeting at two followed by conference call. If I could stay...”
“I know.” She sits up and pulls the sheet around her. “Maybe after, for dinner, you could come here. I know the kids would love to have you at home.”
His chest tightens. “I’d like that, I would, but I already have plans tonight. Next week--”
“That’s okay,” Arianna assures him. “That’s just fine.”
***
“Shh,” Augusto soothes, gently caressing a lock of hair from Julia’s eyes. “It’s all right, I’m right here.”
“I can’t do this,” she whispers. Frantically, she shakes her head. “I can’t, I’m so sorry. It’s killing me, please--”
He has to be firm, no matter how difficult this is. “No. I’m not giving up and neither are you. You were the one that agreed to get clean. It’s this or rehab, because giving up just isn’t an option.”
“You’ll stay?” It strikes him in that moment that she sounds just like a little girl.
“I promise, I’ll be right here.”

I love all of them, really, his different relationships and how much he loves all of them. That's really clear here, and I love that it's not one over the others. Julia just needs him the most, and if the others needed him as much, he'd be there, too.
Great job.

And then.
It didn't. And I was willed with the warm fuzzies.

No, really, Augusto is just... he cares, deeply, for each and every mother. Even Melissa. I can't imagine how he balances this all out.
