Last Fuzzy Wuzzy! :-)
Carefully he tries to leave the bed. Tries not to wake Freya up. It's not as if he's afraid to make a sound. He knows he'll manage to get out of the bed without a sound. But she's sleeping in his arm, curled up against his side, her head resting on his shoulder. And he does not want to wake her up yet. Not when she is - finally - sleeping calmly again. It’s the first time in weeks that she sleeps peacefully again. Without lying awake. Without the nightmares. Without the pain.
Smiling he uses her own moving to get his arm free and roll away from her. Wondering for a second if she’ll wake up when she doesn’t feel him by her side anymore. He stays like that. Lying on the edge of the mattress, watching her. And he is tempted to reach out, to stroke her hair and her cheek and to kiss her. But that would only result in waking her up and he can’t allow that to happen. He wants to surprise her. Wants to…
Silently he gets out of bed. Keeping his eyes on her while he walks towards the door. Silently he opens it, holding his breath. But she doesn’t wake up. He waits to turn on the light in the hallway until he has closed the door again. Silently he walks to the kitchen, quickly preparing a light breakfast. He knows exactly what she wants.
Silently he walks back to the bedroom, keeping the light in the hallway on when he opens the door and enters, the tray in his hands. She is still sleeping, curled up. Smiling slightly. The sight is so serene that he doesn’t have the heart to wake her up yet. She could use the sleep. The chemo leaves her tired. The fighting does. Very tired. But today is one of the good days. He can always tell the good days when there has been a good night. And so he is going to spoil her this morning. Freya would argue if he ever voiced that. Saying he always spoils her. No matter what.
