The universe was mapped in Its Fathomlessness, and what It willed to pluck required no eye's sight. It's a man who gives It eyes. It's a man who fits It to a revenant's shell.

It's a man who frightens the Fathomless.

"Open your eyes," says the man, and Berith obeys.

A million eyes slit open above New Kaddar, and they stare into Berith's Fathomlessness and glimpse, impossibly, Its end.
