I took a life once.
I know how, of course. I am a physician; such things are learned almost by accident.
He asked me, and would have suffered much if I had not. I would not unmake that decision, and I would do it for someone else, if necessary, but only under like circumstances.
Because some principles have to stand—particularly in my family, where I worry I am the only one who has them. I may look the other way, may grant a death was earned, may not mourn someone killed for justice’s sake…but I would never do it.

Yeah, I have some holes in my lint roller, and this one just jumped right out at me while I was bored at work today.
This was another thing I didn't know until I wrote it, but it doesn't surprise me, either.
