“What? Are you saying you didn’t know about jackalopes?” Joelle smirked from their vantage point in the ventilation pipes of her parents’ defunct research lab..
“I did, but they aren’t--wait...” Inez stopped feeling her own forehead to stare wide-eyed at Jo. “You see them, too?”
“They are sort of there.”
Both women watched the horned bunnies, contemplating this development. “You know, I don’t recall them having wings in the legends.”
“Well--ah-ah--ahCHOO!” She banged around the ductwork with the force of her sneeze, cursing her allergies.
Like a single organism, the jackalopes turned towards the sound, rising up. Joelle stopped to watch them. “Come to think of it, I don’t remember what they eat...”
“Not us!” Inez shoved her on hastily.
