Caithlynn is standing on the top of a cliff. Hands balled to fists and her eyes closed. She knows Alan can see her. Knows that he knows that she knows. But she doesn't react. She just stands there. Motionless but for the way her hair and dress flow in the wind.

They have only known one other for a couple of weeks. And even though they have fought some battles together already, there is no bond. They have saved each other's life, they have bled and taken care of each other. But there is no friendship between them. They fight together and depend upon one other and trust each other because they must. Because it is destiny. Because they are Wielders. But there is nothing more.

If they'd be little children still, there'd be lots of "I hate you!" exclamations. But they are not. They know they cannot let these feelings interfere. The world is at stake.

Caithlynn almost smiles when she thinks about this. How they'd react if they actually were little kids still. She's certain she'd often stick out her tongue. Hell, she has almost wanted to do so when they were arguing just a couple of days back.

Lifting her head, her eyes still closed, she hears her Dragon approaching. It's her only reaction to it. How clearly can she feel Taigiri's worry and concern. Her Dragon will not speak up though, knows when to leave her alone with her thoughts. The Dragon is only there for comfort. A silent present to let her know she's not alone and everything will be alright. Caithlynn is - though she will not say it, she knows Taigiri knows - extremely grateful.

Vaguely she sense how Alan walks away, probably to check up on Naigendra. They can both feel the threat hanging above them. Everything around them warns them. The air, the forest, the animals. The Dragons feel it as well. Something is going to happen. Soon. They just don't know what. But it's not going to be pretty...

What a lovely picture this brings to my mind.

It's good they can face whatever the future brings together. They may not feel the bond (yet) but that's likely to change, right?
... That makes me wonder, does Alan feel different. His stoic expression makes it hard to guess what he thinks.

I'm glad they can work together despite despising each other. That's something you don't see very often in friendship.
