Notes: Sorry for not tagging earlier I wanted to make sure I got it in in time. This is something I'm working out as Amulet's backstory taken from many different places. I don't write in first P.O.V. alot so I hope that it's alright. If there's something I did wrong please let me know. Enjoy!
Before I went to sleep every night, my mother used to tell me a story about the first psychic connection. The story always started off with once upon a time there was a princess who despite having people around her she always felt lonely. Her husband was so busy with war that he barely paid attention to her. The princess wrote to her siblings, but they had their own land and families to take care for that their responses were always very slow. She didn’t have many friends and couldn’t leave the palace.
One day, the princess took a walk in the garden and wished for a companion to talk with. To her surprise someone answered, but she didn’t see them. She heard them in her mind. My mom would always drop her voice around this part when the princess thought she was slowly losing her mind. Every day she returned to the garden and talked with the mysterious voice. Each day her loneliness and sadness disappeared until she could smile again. The princess wished to meet them, but they refused each time.
Let’s see, then one day the princess found the perfect opportunity. She was going out with her husband to meet the lord of another land. She had a plan. When they stopped for camp, she would try to reach the mysterious voice and see if they would reveal who they were. At this part, my mom would tuck me in and tell me that on the way to the camp a group of thieves attacked the camp. During the attack, the princess ran for safety with the thieves on her trail.
She stopped at the edge of a cliff and asked for someone, anything to help her. To her joy, the mysterious voice answered her thoughts and appeared before her as a dragon. The dragon got rid of the thieves and told her that she held the power to communicate through the mind. A power that many didn’t consider true. The dragon revealed that her husband knew about it and planned to use her power for his own reasons.
My mom would get sad around this part, but I never knew why. Anyway, the princess became sad over the news. She didn’t know what to do, but the dragon gave her two choices. She could try to make it to the next country or she could find others who held the same power. The princess was lost. It was the first time she had a choice, but she didn’t know what to pick. However, with her husband dead and her family miles away she didn’t have anyone to talk with.
The princess decided to join up with the dragon and look for others who shared the same power. She found others who had the same or similar powers that together they formed a small community away from demons, humans, and anyone else that wanted to harm them. A community that grew into the Amulet I know today.
I didn’t know why my mom would get sad at the part about having a choice. At the time, I didn’t know that she had to use her power for the war. I remember her being very sad every day, but would always have a smile ready for me and Suzaku at night. When she left, I read the story again and finally realized why she left.
I had to read the ending too since I always fell asleep during that part. At the end, the princess and the dragon stayed friends for a very long time or until the end. There is another story that the princess and the dragon is the guide for psychics when they pass on to the Second Great Plane. That’s another story though.
I miss my mom and every night I tell Suzaku that story so he won’t forget her.
I just hope that wherever she is she has a dragon to help her.
