Ember #15, Bubblegum Pink #14, Fever Red #23
Name: shadowsong26
Story: Come Marching Home Again
'Verse: Feredar
Colors: Ember #15. Noon, Bubblegum Pink #14. Time for a Treat, Fever Red #23. kidney stones
Supplies and Materials: miniature collection, pointillism, photography, eraser (Legitimate Sorell AU), oils, feathers, fabric, charcoal, pastels (my current gen + romance card G3 "youth"), chalk, novelty beads, yarn, beading wire, glitter ("Fear is your best friend or your worst enemy. It's like fire. If you can control it, it can cook for you; it can heat your house. If you can't control it, it will burn everything around you and destroy you. If you can control your fear, it makes you more alert, like a deer coming across the lawn." – Mike Tyson)
Word Count: 248
Rating: PG-13
Characters: Sorell Younger, Kellom, Fera
Warnings: Character/parental death
Notes: Constructive criticism welcome, as always. This takes place from when Sorell is about two to when he's seven. I previously wrote in this AU here.
Daddy comes home from the wall, and he peeks out from behind Mommy's skirt to see him standing in the doorway, tall and tall and wearing a shadow of a smile.
Daddy comes home from the wall, and he remembers him from last time and runs up for a hug, and Daddy sweeps him up into the air and he laughs and laughs in the golden sunshine.
Daddy comes home from the wall and takes him and Mamma out into the gardens and spends and hour patiently showing him how to hold a knife like a sword, and Mamma's smiling so happy.
Daddy comes home from the wall without smiling this time, and just holds him close without saying anything, and he tries not to be afraid.
Daddy comes home from the wall and he's already terrified because the guards came and got him and Mamma early this morning, and no one will say why.
Daddy comes home from the wall less and less, 'cause Daddy doesn't leave for the wall as much, but even though Daddy's real close, he never sees him these days, 'cause Daddy's King now and everything's scary outside.
Daddy comes home from the wall late at night and he wakes up to Daddy holding him and taking slow, shuddery breaths, and he tries to hug him better but it doesn't work.
He stands shivering in the sunlight, waiting for Daddy to come home from the wall.
This time, Daddy doesn't come.

I have no idea what happens after this, but it's probably not good. And yeah, Kellom is...a very reserved person, but he does genuinely love his son.
