Nolani felt all pretty and important, in the red dress Daddy got special for dinner with the grown-ups. Mamma had made sure she would Behave, and not slurp or spill but be very, very good.

And she was, until desert which was dried fruit and her tooth came out and she cried 'cause she'd been trying so hard and now she had to spit it out onto her plate.

But Daddy hugged her, and Mamma sighed but wasn't mad, so Nolani went to bed happy.

She couldn't wait 'til dinner with the grown-ups again.

Well, after the novelty wears off, it becomes a boring thing she has to do more and more often as she gets older. But then it gets fun again when she's old enough to flirt.
