Ivy dragged her feet all the way up the stairs and into the living room, then tossed her stupid paper hat on the table and collapsed into the couch, face-down.

She hadn't seen anyone else in the room, so it was a little surprising when Aaron said, "Whoa, you okay?" but she was way too tired to jump or even be surprised. She just waved in a small circle above her head.

"I got fired," she said, into the cushions.

"Oh, Christ," he said, and then the couch dipped by her head. He patted her hair, gently. "You want to talk about it?"

"'m not mad," Ivy told the couch. "I deserved it."

Aaron made a low, distressed noise. "No, baby, no, I'm sure you didn't."

Ivy propped her head up on one arm, and was amused to find her brother looking down at her with concern and homicide mingled on his features. "Don't look like that," she said. "Actually I really did deserve it. I might have sort of set the kitchen on fire."

"Oh, God," he said, and his face shifted abruptly to resignation. "Ivy, what did you do?"

She whined, and head-butted his leg. "I got boooored, Aaron, it's not my fault. Do you know how boring it is making drinks day after day? The same way, every single time, no creativity, just put the drink in the cup and hand it over? I got bored. And I, um, I was toasting a brownie, and things kind of got out of control, and..."

"No," he said, holding up one hand. "No, I don't want to know. You set the kitchen on fire and got fired, that's all I need to hear."

She grinned. "You have no sense of adventure. Anyway, no one died."

"Not reassuring." He squinted down at her, skeptically. "You'll have to learn to tolerate boredom someday, you know. If you keep committing arson then you'll never hold down a job."

"Not true!" she said. "I could be a... a... I don't know. Do they still burn leaves? Oh, wait, I know, I could run incinerators."

"Knowing you," Aaron said, on a sigh, "you'd turn one into a bomb."

Ivy grinned again. "You know me so well. I'll get another job next summer."

"Let's start small," Aaron said. "Lemonade stand."

"Sure, whatever," she said, and wondered if she could take over the world with a lemon.

TOO TRUE IVY I'M SORRY.

But, if anyone could take over the world with a lemon, it would be you.

And I would pay to see that XD.
