Cotton Candy 4: Bucket and Shovel

Title: Bucket and Shovel
Story: Shine Like It Does
Colors: Cotton candy 4 (Sandbox) with blossom's paint-by-numbers (Daniel wonders if he should keep Benjy close or hide him away from the world).
Supplies and Materials: Fabric (buckets and shovels), novelty beads (ice cream cone).

Summary: The space between protection and stifling.

Notes: A father-son moment. Because.
"Please can I go, Daddy?" Benjy's eyes were the biggest Daniel had ever seen them, huge pleading pools of brown. "Pretty please?"
And if not for those eyes Daniel would have just said no. Benjy was six, much too young in Daniel's opinion to go to the playground by himself, no matter how close it was or how safe the area, no matter how responsible his kid was. But those eyes...
He wanted to protect Benjy, keep him safe. But... Benjy's mouth was turning downward, and his expression turning resigned, as if he thought he knew what his father's answer must be.
"No," Daniel said. "You can't go by yourself. But..." he held up a finger and Benjy's protest stopped. "If you wait just a second, I'll go with you. And..." He paused, for effect. "Maybe some ice cream."
"Yay!" Benjy hugged him quickly, then tore off to get his toys, and Daniel turned over the top paper. He could grade his students' reports later.
He wanted to keep Benjy safe. He didn't want to stifle him.
Benjy was back, bright plastic bucket and shovel in hand, bouncing happily up and down. "Can we go now, Daddy? Please?"
"Yes," he said, smiling down at his son. "We can go."
