It's strange how calm Charlotte feels now.

Before, when everything was just a plan, she was terrified. It wasn't enough to change her mind—Charlotte knows in her bones that this is how she must live, if she is to respect or even like herself—but she was still terrified. Now, standing in her cheap apartment preparing for her first day of work, she feels calm. This is it.

She wonders if this is what baby birds feel like, on that first endless fall out of the nest, before their wings snap open and, for the first time, they fly.

I love it! It's rare that you get to see Charlotte so sure of herself, and it's great to see her really striking out on her own and seeing how much this moment means to her.

Thank you! Yeah, it's really nice to write her with the absolute certainty. It doesn't happen to her often, but when it does it's unshakeable.

I feel really proud of Charlotte here, and I sympathize so hard. Sometimes things can seem so terrifying that it comes out the other side to calm.
