Notes: This is an AU in which Johnny come out earlier and stays in his first serious relationship. Takes place in late June of 1997.

“Dinner? With your parents?” Brian echoes, eyes widening slightly.

“S’what she said,” Johnny confirms. He shrugs, loose and fluid in his movements. “Ma wants ta get ta know ya. So, yeah, we’ll have dinner this weekend. It’ll be fine, trust me.”

“Easy for you to say. You won’t be the one under scrutiny.”

Johnny smiles, reaching between them to grip Brian’s hand. He squeezes, muttering, “I’ll be right there. Right next ta ya.” When he leans in, he softly pressing their lips together.

“Yeah,” Brian agrees after a moment. The tension in his shoulders eases slightly. “Okay. Dinner this weekend.”
