There was a rubber duck staring at him.
Lars stared back at it for about five minutes before he registered that the rubber duck did, in fact, exist. He gave it another five minutes before realizing that he wasn't going to figure out why lying in bed.
There were about a hundred more ducks bedecking the room he shared with Mort. That explained... well, something. Lars gave the ducks a weary look, and went out to breakfast.
The twins were sitting at the table, bright-eyed and grinning. "Interesting morning?" Elisa asked, innocently.
That explained the rest.
He'd get them back.
