Title: La Famille
Timeline: 1113 AW

Supplies and Styles: None

Summary: You haven't changed. You are still as selfish as you were when we wed.
Rating: PG
Warnings: There are derogatory words for a woman dropped casually into the conversation.
Notes: Around the time this takes place, Marie Everart has recently returned from beyond the border and has taken up a post as a maid of honor to Queen Therese which is where she has caught the eye of Henri, the king. She was previously involved with the King of Ibertians, Rene III.
“I know you're watching me,” Jean Michele said without opening his eyes.
Elisabetta said nothing. She was watching him or rather his back. He only turned away from her when something was bothering him or if she were bothering him more likely.
“If you have something to say, Elisabetta. Then by the God Above say it.”
“I can't believe you!”
Jean Michele flipped over and faced his wife. She had a fierce look on his face and he knew he was up for a battle.
“It's for the best, Elisabetta.”
“How is whoring out your daughter for the best? She's one and twenty now and she has our grandchildren to take care of.”
“They are the children of a King. They will be taken care of, Elisabetta.”
“How so when their father is across the border? You know how much trouble it was trying to arrange for her to even bring them here.”
“Which makes this opportunity golden, Elisabetta. He can protect her.”
“Do you really think he means to protect her? He wants her in his bed, only that.”
“If that were so then why did he offer her the title of major mistress? He means for her to replace the other one.”
“Do you hear yourself, Jean Michele?”
Jean Michele grunted. “Liliana. Marie being the major mistress will do the family much more good than bad. Who knows what will happen if she dare refuses him?”
Elisabetta watched her husband closely.
“You think me a fool Jean Michele Everart? I know you. I am your wife! You've become power hungry.”
He reached for her, but she pulled away.
“You are no better than you were when we first wed! You are still the same self-indulged man you always were.”
Elisabetta stormed out of the room. Jean Michele cursed silently. How could he make her see that this was the best thing for their family? He was only looking out for them. Wasn't he?
