Soot 10: The Mysterious Doctor Bellamy
Name: Destiny
Story: The Revolutionary World
Title: The Mysterious Doctor Bellamy
Timeline: Alternate 1840 CE
Colors: Soot 10: persona non grata (trans: person not pleasing)
Supplies and Styles: None
Word Count: 378
Summary: There's a new visitor at court, but why he's there, no one knows. At least not yet.
Rating: G
Warnings: None
Notes: So this is...something I've had in mind. The characters themselves are fairly recent, but the world and general idea go back to last year. In this story, Princess Charlotte of Wales did not die after childbirth and her child survived and she of course became Queen when her father, George IV, died. I'm still working on details, but I really enjoyed writing this. Oh and to the mods, you don't have to tag the story at the moment as I want to be sure I'm going to write it again. XD
“Why so glum, Adelaide?”
Adelaide half turned away from the dance floor. Queen Charlotte was dancing with her husband, King Leopold. It was one of the rare moments that the royal couple got to spend together and Adelaide was happy to witness it.
But she was not so happy watching the Prince of Wales show off.
George Leopold had to be the rudest, egocentric, and pompous man-child that she had ever met. She didn't understand how though with parents such as his. But then again perhaps he took after his maternal grandfather?
“I'm alright Mary,” Adelaide said smiling. “You worry too much.”
“And you don't worry enough,” Mary said sitting down daintily next to Adelaide.
“Why worry?” Adelaide said throwing her arms into the air. “The world is beautiful. Life is beautiful. What worries are there?”
“Adelaide!” Mary shrieked.
Adelaide laughed drawing attention towards herself. Adelaide smiled at those who watched her. Some turned away and whispered to their partners, but Adelaide didn't care.
Mary sighed deeply.
The music came to an end and the royal couple parted. King Leopold kissed his wife gently on the cheek making her laugh.
Queen Charlotte turned to her subjects.
“I've invited you all here for a purpose,” Charlotte said slowly. “I am welcoming a very distinguished guest and I want you all to join me in making him comfortable.”
“Who is it?” Mary asked Adelaide elbowing Adelaide slightly.
“Ouch, I don't know Mary. I'm just as surprised as you.”
Queen Charlotte nodded toward someone. Everyone turned in that direction. Mary stood up to get a better look.
A man came forward. He was dressed in a fine suit and he was wearing a large bowler hat. He was rather on the thin side, but his pace was fast.
“Welcome Doctor,” Charlotte greeted him when he reached her.
The man bowed lowly to the queen. “It is my pleasure, Your Majesty.”
“Please welcome Dr. Bellamy,” Charlotte said.
The room was quiet.
Adelaide hurriedly clapped her hands as did Mary and everyone else soon followed.
“I wonder why he's here?” Mary asked as the applause died down.
“I don't know,” Adelaide said. “But I have a feeling we will soon find out.”
