Dove White #15, Dove Grey #5, Zing #5
Name: shadowsong26
Story: Not Worth It
'Verse: Feredar
Colors: Dove White #15. If you would marry suitably, marry your equal., Dove Grey #5. For some moments in life there are no words., Zing #5. how about never?
Supplies and Materials: bichromatic, photography, eraser (Queen Sela AU), oils, stain, feathers, charcoal, chalk
Word Count: 205
Rating: PG-13
Characters: Sela
Warnings: Some sexism
Notes: Constructive criticism welcome, as always.
Each man Sela's council put forth as a consort candidate seemed more unpleasant than the last. Half of them seemed to think they could pat her on the head and get her with child and then she would ignore her other duties, leaving them to rule in her name. Which...well, yes, children would come and there would be periods when she would have to relinquish direct control, but...she had no intention of being anyone's puppet.
And those who weren't patronizing in that way were boring, stupid men that Sela couldn't abide for more than an hour or two, let alone a lifetime. These men were sometimes very handsome, reasonably adept at flattery--a few even seemed to worship the ground she walked on a little more than was appropriate even for their queen. They were just so...dull.
None of them were men she could talk to, could imagine raising her children. And perhaps her standards were too high, and perhaps she was expecting too much from her marriage, and perhaps she was delaying this too long over quibbles, but...
Sela wasn't dreaming of romance. She was more realistic than that. She just wanted someone who would treat her with the respect she deserved.

She's...not even really looking for that level of compatibility, actually. It's just that most of her suitors have either treated her like a child or like a goddess who can do no wrong, and she hates both of those attitudes.

Good job.

Well, she wants one who respects her exactly as much as she deserves. She's not like Kesshare, whose ideal consort would worship her and do exactly as she says.
But, yeah, the bigger problem is the patronizing ones.
