Soot 17: The Following
Name: Destiny
Story: The Mondian Chronicles (Archive/Index/Timelines)
Title: The Following
Timeline: 1104 AW
Colors: Soot 17: Quantum libet (trans: as much as you please)
Supplies and Styles: None
Word Count: 252
Summary: The Queen Dowager, her daughter in law, and the Ibonian duenna have a discussion. Or something along those lines.
Rating: G
Warnings: Isabell is kind of a control freak.
Notes: Alright this takes place in 1104 AW. Henri has been married to Therese since 1101 and she has recently delivered their son, Hector. Therese is the daughter of two monarchs. Fernando of Ibonia and Isabelle of Grobe. Alondra is from Ibonia, but she served under Isabelle before she became a queen in her own right.
They were having a problem.
“I am the boy’s grandmother,” Isabell said calmly.
“You are his great grandmother. I am his and my lady’s duenna. The Queen herself installed me in this position,” Alondra said in a thick Ibonian accent.
“I think you forget that you are standing on Mondian soil,” Isabell said staring into the woman’s deep brown eyes. “The Grobish Queen mandates have no effect here.”
“You dare?” Alondra started, clearly offended.
“May I suggest something?” Queen Elisabeth asked in a quiet voice.
“No, you may not,” Isabell snapped at daughter-in-law. She glanced at Elisabeth and she saw the defiance in her eyes, but her sister had raised her well. Or at least the girl’s nurse had. She stayed quiet.
“I’ll ask the King himself!” Alondra said holding her breath slightly.
Isabell smiled. “You may. But his answer will be the same as mine. My son gave me free rule concerning matters of the home.”
Alondra sniffed. She turned to Elisabeth and opened her mouth to speak, but closed it again. She glared at Isabell before stomping off into baby Hector’s nursery.
“I wonder if the Grobish Queen is as headstrong as her subordinates,” Isabell mused.
“I’ve heard it true,” Elisabeth said stiffly.
“Well that just will not do here, will it Lisbet?”
“No, my lady.”
Isabell smiled and gestured to Elisabeth.
“Come along, we must check on the girls.”
Isabell walked out the door. She didn’t need to look behind her to know that Elisabeth followed. She always did.
