Characters: Freya, Susan

Supplies and Styles: Novelty Beads (“If you don't risk anything, you risk more." - Erica Jong)
Word count: 421

Summary: Susan asks her to come watch the parade
Notes: Constructive criticism is, as always, welcome
The wind was blowing. Hard. Head on. And Freya cursed once, hunched over the handlebar of her bike. The bus passed her by. Filled with people who smiled when they saw her pushing the pedals. She just smiled back at them. There was no way she wanted to be in an overcrowded bus right now. Her bike gave her way too much freedom. She had started to rely on it. Though sometimes she wondered if it was worth battling the wind and the rain…
Her cell phone rings when she just enters her apartment.
“Hey Susan.”
”Freya. Are you free next Sunday?”
Smiling she takes her agenda out of her bag. Not even bothered by the fact her friend didn’t utter a single greeting. Quickly she checks it before finally taking off her jacket and kicking off her shoes.
“Nothing planned at all Sunday…”
She’s lying only a little bit. In fact it isn’t really lying…
”There is this parade of the army. Liam has to walk with it. And we are asked as majorettes to open it. You want to come and watch?”
Of course Freya can her the doubt and the hope in her friend’s voice.
“I would love to.”
For a second Freya is doubting whether or not she’d add that the parade has been planned in her agenda for 2 weeks already. Liam told Nick. And Nick asked if she wanted to come along. And then Liam asked her when he found out Susan was going to participate as well. But then she hears her stomach grumble and Susan is already talking again.
”Great! I might need some pep talk before it all starts.”
The comment makes Freya chuckle. After all, she knows her friend is just as nervous as she is when there are people watching her every move.
“Don’t worry girl. You’ll be great. And of course I’ll be there for some pep talk.”
”Great. You’re awesome Freya. I’ll see you then. Expect a mail from me soon. But, now I’ve got to run. Liam is taking me out for dinner. “
The happy giggle at the other end of the line makes Freya smile while she puts everything ready to prepare her own meal.
“Have fun. See ya.”
The cheerful ”See ya!” she receives before the phone starts beeping makes her shake her head. No matter what – no matter how stressful her day at work has been and how tired she got from cycling – the ever happy Susan always manages to lift her mood.
