Halloween Orange
Name: Charley
Story: No Child Is Spared
Colors: Halloween Orange - I find relationships so often are an awful bore.
Word Count: 382
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: None
Notes: Oh Anya, I love you so much. You are kind of awesome and confident in your relationships and it makes me happy.
She found conventional relationships dull as dirt. Thought that romance movies were trash and that books with a heavy romantic plot were simply not for her. She wasn't interested in seeing the development of a relationship, she didn't give a damn what happened and if they got together at the end.
It's just how she was.
Anya took a similar interest in romance in her own life. She didn't care. She was happy with David and Teddy, happy being their friend, their fuck buddy and their confidant when need be. She didn't care about the romance, didn't care about Valentines or kissing in the rain. It was stupid to her.
And even though they tried to insist that she had a thing for Cliff, that she wanted to be close with them, Anya would roll her eyes and tell Teddy to fuck off and go play with cameras or David to go bake something, because they had an order to get out soon.
She didn't have a thing for Cliff and it wasn't denial and it wasn't repression. She didn't care. he was interesting, yes, but she didn't want him to sweep her off her feet. She wanted to see inside his brain, understand what made him tick but that wasn't romance, that was the need to know driving her, not anything more.
So, she screwed with him.
And, in return, he would screw with her right back.
It wasn't romance. it wasn't love, it was two people getting to know each other the best way they could. I*t was creative investigation. It was the acknowledgement that they were going to be in each others lives and maybe they liked it and maybe it was fun and maybe they could be something but to hell with convention, to hell with anyone who says they need to get together at the end.
At least, that's what it said to Anya.
She won't wrap her arms around him at the end, she won't let him carry her off into the sunset. She'll climb into her van and drive off as fast as she an and agree to meet him the next day for another go around, another game, another day of breaking each other down and watching each other be built back u again.
