After three failed attempts to draft a letter to her son, Kesshare went down to her stables with her favorite bodyguard.
A daughter. Gods. A marriage, and a daughter, without a word to anyone. Not even to his sister. She'd had to find out from Riluke, who didn't even learn it directly herself--oh, no. She learned from her contacts in the North, as the child was a lightning-mage.
A daughter.
She ran a hand along the side of her fastest camel, near-black and called Midnight, and saddled him herself. Her guard took another swift one, a more typically brown female called Dust Rose.
Once Dust Rose was ready, Kesshare mounted with practiced ease and spurred Midnight across the sands.
A daughter.
At least the mother was no longer in the picture, though Riluke said he had married her. She hadn't found a good spouse for Isshiri--and, to be fair, she hadn't really had a prospective spouse lined up for him.
She took Midnight in a wide circle around the dunes, pushing him to go as fast as possible. By the time they reached the city gates again, she was past the first flush of rage.
She would have Ineku write their son, she decided. He could be reproving without being cruel or vindictive, which Kesshare couldn't trust herself to be anyway.
She slid off of Midnight and began to groom him meticulously, to complete the calming process.
Yes. Ineku would write the letter, and summon their wayward son home.
The boy would have to answer for his reckless deception.

A daughter, really. XD

Nope, not a terrible person!
I mean, in Kesshare's defense, she finds out her son is widowed and has a nearly-four-year-old daughter third-hand, but she's...almost more upset that he didn't consult her first than that she found out at a distance. Again, with a certain justification--even though he's ineligible for the throne personally, her son's marriage has political repercussions because he is royalty.
Still, her pain is kind of hilarious at this point, because she sort of set herself up for being cut out of this. Isshiri mostly regrets that not telling her meant cutting out his father, sisters, and cousin as well.

He reeeeeeally is. Everyone's upset with him for keeping Telri and Roneli secret like this. Kirana knew, obviously, and didn't share for the same reason he kept the secret--Kesshare would have separated them somehow--but that doesn't really help his case much.

Nope. Me, neither.

I think the daughter makes her even more pissed off than anything else--she'd have preferred it be a son, wouldn't she? Maybe she'll calm down if she meets her. Because everyone loves babies.

...actually, the only grandchild whose sex she cared about was Nolani's firstborn, for reasons of Inheritance and Empire-Building--Glass throne goes to the oldest child, regardless of sex, but Feredar favors boys over girl, and there was a clause in the marriage contract where, if Nolani only had girls, the throne would pass to Andrell's oldest sister and her heirs (to make the mage thing more palatable.)
Kesshare just focuses on the daughter part because she knows Isshiris' child is a daughter and she's furious that, not only did Isshiri produce a child without consulting her on who the mother should be, but the little girl is almost-four and she found out third-hand that she existed.
