Like a lot of my shorter pieces, it comes from the things my brain was repeating in my head at the time I wrote it. Sometimes if I write them down they go away, y'know? Trapped in the ink, or electronic equivalent.
(Surely Rudyard Kipling or RL Stevenson or somebody already wrote a story about a writer's personal demons being trapped in the ink of his stories... it seems so obvious for the tone of that era's horror fiction. Didn't they?)
