Notes: Theresa is about 24 in this piece and has been betrothed to marry Prince Henri of Monde since she was about ten. Isabelle is the Queen Regnant of Grobe, a country far from Ibonia, where her husband, Fernando, rules.
“She should take the red gown.”
Theresa listened to her parents argue. While she was growing up that hadn't really argued much, but lately they seemed to argue over the pettiest of things.
“I think she would look better in Grobish green, my dear. It would flatter her hair,” Queen Isabelle said with tension in her voice.
“She should wear the red because it is the color of her home country and after all she will be representing Ibonian interests,” Fernando said raising his voice slightly.
Theresa sighed and sat down on one of the heavy chests and watched her parents.
“You must remember that she will also represent Grobish interests as she's my daughter too,” Isabelle said.
“Isabelle...”
“I don't want to argue anymore about it, Fernando.”
“We wouldn't have to argue, if you would simply do as I say,” Fernando said.
“Do as you say!?” Isabelle said clearly affronted.
“Yes as you are my wife,” Fernando said turning away from Isabelle.
“You must remember that I am a queen as well,” Isabelle said following her husband out of their daughter's apartments. Theresa could hear their voices fading away, both still arguing.
Theresa looked around her room. She wondered what Antonio was doing and if the child was alright. She hadn't seen either of them in five years and her time to see them was numbered.
She had to find a way to get a message to them.
