Notes: So, i think Cody just got herself a traveling companion. I now nothing about her little friend but I am excited to find out more about her.

Cody met herself on the highway, sitting under evergreens watching the traffic whir by.

She didn’t say anything, not for a long time, just sat down next to the spitting image of herself and watched. It was too cold for conversation anyway, ice forming on their lashes and crystallizing their breath.

“Who are you,” Cody asked after a while because there was nothing else to do. Traffic wasn’t stopping any time soon and neither of them were going to hitch a ride. It was either conversation or more silence and that was starting to get oppressive.

“Dunno,” the other her answered. “Cant’….Can’t remember. Can’t remember much of anything.”

She had a scarf wrapped around her, a tattered red thing that looked like it was never going to do the job of keeping her warm. Cody wondered if it was a piece of who she used to be but didn’t ask.

“”You don’t know who you are,” she said, her tone skeptical.

“No.”

She squinted at the other girl, studying her for any signs she might be lying but couldn’t find a single one.

“You gonna stay out here?”

The girl shrugged, yawning and looking up to the sky. “I woke up here,” she started. “I don’t have anywhere else to go.”

Cody smiled, although it was somewhat bitter. At least her double didn’t seem any better off than she was, that was kind of nice in this horrible way.

She digs around in her bag, pulling out an iron knife, something old and battered with a dull blade but it didn’t matter. If the other girl was fae, she’d have an adverse reaction to it.

“Touch it,” Cody ordered.

She did, shuddering a little but holding onto the blade until Cody finally nodded.

If she was fae, she didn’t have strong blood and that was a comfort.

“Look,” Cody began. “I’m not staying out here all night.. I’m going to freeze my ass off and I can’t afford to do that. I’m finding warm at least for tonight.”

The girl’s eyes lit up and she smiled wide. “Are you inviting me along?”

She shrugged. “I don’t know, are you in the mood for a walk?”

“Definitely,” she said with a cheer that Cody hadn’t been expecting.

“All right then, let’s get out of here.”
