The first time Nick visited her, he was drawn to the katana that decorates her wall.
He asked her after a few visits if she had ever practised with it; she just shook her head, looking longingly at the sword.
They decided to take Kendo lessons soon after that, both of them hoping that one day they’d have a fight with their real swords.
A few years later - when they visited Japan - Nick bought a katana himself.
When Freya beats the cancer, he gives her a gift - a Wakizashi that perfectly fits her katana.
Eventually it was Freya who challenged him to a sword fight - in her living room...
