There were colors that I knew before,
Blue and white, silver and paling gold--
Hints of colors, refracting rainbows,
Now turned to greens and scarlets, richer hues.
Bathed in transient sun, no longer endless,
And all the sweeter for it.
Behind me, lie the last of the shadows,
Charcoal giving way to endless sun,
Paving paths and shadows across glistening,
Majestic shapes, sketched along the horizon,
Clear and shining, blinding-bright but cold--
These were the colors I knew before.
They shade from there, to shorter days and nights
As I glide down, away from all I knew,
The endless ocean spilling out beneath my feet--
Then a smudge along the horizon, a shadow I just dream;
Waves crash into sand upon the other side,
Blue and white, silver and paling gold.
The ground feels strange beneath my feet,
Unknown and solid, yet at the same time shifts,
But it is nothing compared to the sights before my eyes--
Rain and flowers, grass and trees and birds,
Clothing and towns, sun and wind and fruit,
Hints of colors, refracting rainbows.
The world I knew was beautiful,
But sketches on a blanker page.
This new one that I travel is
Surely no more handsome, but
Merely painted in a wider range of colors--life
Now turned to greens and scarlets, brighter hues.
The world I knew was magical,
Carved from impossible materials,
Shelter from all storms and darkness
And the blazing light that never sleeps.
This new one seems to dance before my eyes,
Bathed in transient sun, no longer endless.
The world I knew was static.
Not just the energy, but changeless, timeless.
This new one is, instead, vibrant,
If rootless, it still continues to grow,
Developing, imagining, changing every second
And all the sweeter for it.
