Notes: Marie Everart is the elder sister of Anna Everart, second queen to Henri I. At this point in the story though, both the Everart sisters are across the border in Iberte, where Marie has become mistress to Rene III, the King of Ibertians.
“What do you think of the portrait?” Rene asked his paramour, Lady Marie Everart.
Marie looked at the portrait. It portrayed Bronde on the Great Hill with his hands to the sky, the moment he found out that he was the son of God.
“It’s great,” Marie said smiling.
Rene turned away from her. Marie moved closer to the painting. She wondered if Bronde had been content with his life before the Revelation. Did he feel like she felt now? Like there was something beyond this life she held?
Marie sighed softly. Would she ever feel content with life again?
