Summary: The Queen isn't the most discreet person, is she?

Notes: This piece makes more sense if read after Suspicions. Henri and Anna have been married for five years by the time this takes place. Anna is currently pregnant. May I have a tag for fluorite? (I keep wanting to put the o before u in that word XD)
He met Thomas in the council chambers.
“You have the proof?” Henri asked quietly.
Thomas nodded. He pulled a folded piece of paper out. Silently he handed it over to Henri.
Henri took a deep breath, before unfolding the piece of paper.
Henri crumpled the paper up in his hand. She...loved someone else? His wife...his queen...Anna. She truly loved someone else.
“Well,” Henri started.
“I'm sorry, Your Majesty,” Thomas said bowing his head.
“While this letter...it's damning yes. But it is not conclusive of adultery,” Henri said trying to stay calm.
“Of course not, Your Majesty,” Thomas said stepping forward. “But there are rumors. You know that the Queen...”
“That she's what?” Henri asked sharply.
“The Queen isn't the most discreet woman is she?”
Henri glared at Thomas. He looked so compliant. But here the man was implying that his wife was a whore.
“You should choose your words carefully, Caulmont,” Henri growled.
“It's just that haven't you ever wondered about the queen's previous paramours. She was engaged to Lord Villy for awhile wasn't she?”
“Yes,” Henri grunted.
“It is acceptable that betroths may consummate their relationship in preparation for their marriage.”
Henri didn't say anything.
“Of course if they did, no one would ask any questions. But considering how the queen held herself during your own betrothal...”
She held you off for four years. Yet she had consummated her relationship with that scoundrel de Villy?
“My lord?” Thomas's voice came from somewhere.
She deceived you. She made you believe that she was pure. That she had came to you a virgin.
Henri thought back. She had never claimed to be a virgin. She had just refused to sleep with him. But had she...had she really had other lovers besides him?
Look at the way she reacted. She wasn't chaste. She did things...that you had never even thought of.
Henri coughed.
“Are you alright, my lord?”
Henri came back to the present. He shook his head and looked at Thomas.
“Caulmont. I want you to interview, de Villy. I want you to ask around about the Queen's time across the border. But move carefully. I do not want to alarm her.”
Thomas smiled before bowing. “Yes, Your Majesty.”
Henri nodded. He sat down in the chair at the head of the table. He couldn't believe it. His wife had betrayed him. She had made a fool of him. He...the king of all Monde, the man who had moved mountains for her. She had betrayed him.
So why did he find himself wanting nothing to come of Caulmont's interviews? That she be proved innocent? His love...his Anna. She had betrayed him and yet he still wanted her. What a fool he was.
