I wouldn't be here if not for you.
Taz wouldn't let him go tell his brother, said it would be better coming from her, after she'd realigned some, after the Glory sank.
Isshiri didn't blame himself, not really. Yes, it was his plan, and yes, he'd maybe pushed him into it, but...
We all make our own choices. You could've said no.
But he hadn't.
Not knowing what else to do, where else to go, Isshiri came to Riluke's house, faced the ordeal of the ocean to curl up in his cousin's safe harbor, because even if Nolani was better at keeping him safe, Nolani didn't know Mel, and Riluke did. And Riluke, unlike Nolani, always seemed to know when he wanted her close and when he wanted to be alone.
I promised you we'd save the world, and I guess we did.
There was so much left unsaid between them, so many places they could've gone exploring together. He'd mentioned, once, the idea of going to see what was on the other side of the world--maybe with Riluke's help, they could get a ship. Even if it wasn't an Islander ship. And Isshiri would've dealt with it, with the water. It would have been such an adventure. It would have been worth it.
And now it would never happen. But there was plenty to explore here, on this side of the world, the part he had saved. The part they had saved, together.
It wasn't enough. Not now. It could never replace him.
But, Isshiri had to admit, it was better than what losing would have meant.
He closed his eyes, and let out a long, slow breath. He'd leave Riluke's house soon, start on his own private adventures. Because he could.
I wouldn't be here if not for you. We saved the world, just like I promised.
Thank you.
