Word Count: 100
Rating: G
Summary: Maybe it means nothing, but I'm afraid to move.
Warnings: none.
Notes: If you haven't heard Vienna Teng's song Recessional, I highly recommend it.

There's no sound in the airport but the scuff of the janitor's shoes and the rocking shuffle of the baggage carousel. Even the announcements have stopped.

Joanna is asleep on his shoulder and it's all he can do not to tell her. It's not the time, it's not the place, but the truth makes his skin feel too small, and the pressure of her head on his shoulder is too much.

Then passengers flood into the baggage claim and she starts awake and the moment is gone, carried off on the noise like a leaf in a sudden night rain.

The juxtaposition of this interstitial moment and his internal tension is really effective.
