Notes: I was thinking to myself today that I've never featured Madison in a piece where she's the focus. So I got on that. The last bit of the piece I'm not particularly happy with so it may change sometime in the future.

Madison hurried into the coffee shop. She opened the door and stepped inside.

“Maddie! Over here!” She heard Jessica call.

She pulled her jacket closer and walked over to the booth.

“Where have you been, Maddie?” Jessica asked as she sat down.

“I had a meeting with the school newspaper,” Madison said running her hands through her dark hair.

Jessica rolled her eyes. “I don’t know why you’re wasting your time with that. Everyone knows the newspaper is complete fluff anyway.”

Madison smiled but didn’t say anything. She was used to this.

“So I waited on you to order. What do you want?” Jessica asked.

Madison looked toward the menu on the wall. She hated eating out since people always put her on the spot.

“I’ll just have a black coffee, Jess.”

“You always have that. You need to spice it up, Maddie. Do you see all those syrups up there? Just think peppermint, gingerbread, apple and I know you used to love chocolate syrup when we were kids,” Jessica said grinning at her.

No one could resist Jessica’s infamous grin. Madison had a feeling that Jessica had used it many a time to get her way.

“Okay, I’ll have a chocolate latte,” Madison said.

Jessica smiled as she stood up.

“Good, I’ll order you a cinnamon bun to go along with it,” she said lightly as she walked toward the counter.

“No Jess, I don’t want one, I’ll just…” she trailed off. Jessica was at the counter flirting with the barista.

Madison sighed. She looked out the window.

A tiny fleck of ice flew down on the ground.

“It’s starting to snow,” she said to herself.

She watched as the flecks continued to fall. Sometimes she felt like the snow. She wondered if she’d melt away one day just like the snow.

I feel for Madison. It seems like her friends walk all over her and don't respect her own opinions.

Poor Madison. She doesn't seem to feel real at all.
